We live in an era of movies where it’s incredible when an original idea comes to fruition and is done well, mostly because we live in a culture where movie universes and reboots/remakes happen very often. Now, we can add another classic movie remake to the list. According to Collider, Antoine Fuqua (Southpaw, Training Day) will be directing Scarface, the remake of the classic film from the 1930s but most know the Al Pacino version directed by Brian De Palma in 1983.

As the first two versions of the film take place in Miami, this version will shift focus to the West coast in Los Angeles. The script is set to be written by Jonathan Herman who was nominated for Best Original Screenplay with Straight Outta Compton, he’s also set to write the controversial action film Ghost in the Shell that will be released in 2017. No casting news as of yet but Fuqua often works with Denzel Washington in many of his projects like Training Day, The Equalizer, and his upcoming film The Magnificent Seven so I would expect an appearance. Washington did a great job portraying a gangster in the 2007 movie, American Gangster as well.

Fuqua’s next film due out is The Magnificent Seven which will be in theaters September 23rd and in addition to Denzel, also includes Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett and Peter Sarsgaard. Once more information is known about Fuqua’s remake of Scarface though, we’ll be sure to provide you with it!
