David O. Russell is one of my absolute favorite filmmakers. Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle are two of my favorite films of all-time and I love what he gets out of his actors in every film he directs. Now, it seems that like several other filmmakers, he’s making his way to television.

It’s an obvious trend that directors are making a transition towards TV as a new platform to extend their stories within what is being called the Golden Age of Television currently. Steven Soderbergh, Jason Reitman, James Marsh, Gus Van Sant…these are just some of the great filmmakers providing their talents to TV now and David O. Russell has joined the fray.

According to The Playlist, Russell is putting together a limited series that will reunite him with frequent collaborator Robert De Niro who has been in the last three films from the Oscar nominated director (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Joy) and also will star recent Oscar winner, Julianne Moore who will work with Russell for the first time. That’s a hell of a trio and with no Production Company or network attached yet, it’s expected that big money will be thrown in their direction to acquire the series.

Not many details have been released but we do know that it’s expected to be a serialized type of limited series similar to Fargo and True Detective, with the first season being set in the 90s as a crime thriller. The series has a lot of potential though with the talent attached and I’m excited to see where it goes from here.
