Here comes another TV show based on a movie, in this case, one of the most original sci-fi movies of the decade thus far. According to Deadline, TNT has ordered a pilot based on the 2013 film, Snowpiercer.

This just bodes bad news for me. Most shows that are based on feature films just haven’t worked, there are exceptions (Fargo, Bates Motel, Hannibal) but for the most part, it’s been duds. Snowpiercer has an interesting premise in which the world is now a frozen apocalyptic living situation in which a train that circles the world inhabits the remainder of human life. The movie showcases ideas like classism, social injustice and survival in a cruel, political system. The film, is in my eyes, one of the most underrated I’ve ever seen and is a great futuristic thriller directed by Bong Joon-ho starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton and Jamie Bell.

I worry for this show as it will be broadcast on a network like TNT which doesn’t have much to offer in terms of great narrative storytelling on television. I’ll maybe give it a shot after a trailer but until then, we’ll have to wait to see where this goes and if the network likes the pilot.
