It appears that Universal has solidified its two stars to lead Jurassic World going forward as Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow, Lost in Translation) and Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers, Wicked) will lead the currently untitled next entry in the Jurassic franchise. Universal and Amblin Entertainment's next movie within the blockbuster event films is currently dated to hit theaters on July 2, 2025.

Johansson, one of Hollywood's biggest female stars was cast back in March with the actress looking to frontline a new franchise since her exit from the MCU with Black Widow. Johansson played the superhero spy from 2010 until 2021 making her Marvel debut with Iron Man 2 as Natasha Romanoff. Universal was intrigued with ScarJo becoming the face of Jurassic World going forward after the Chris Pratt-Bryce Dallas Howard led films from 2015-2022. Johansson was most recently seen as one of the leads in Wes Anderson's Asteroid City. She has a big 2024 slated with her next film Fly Me to the Moon hitting theaters on July 12 alongside Channing Tatum with Greg Berlanti directing. She'll also voice the character of Elita in Transformers One which helped formulate the relationship with Universal that pushed her to the top of the list for Jurassic World.

Bailey, who broke out with his recent role on Showtime's Fellow Travelers opposite Matt Bomer got cast Monday. Despite the series earning him a Critics Choice Award, word is that his role in the upcoming musical Wicked as Fiyero was what swayed the studio to come clamoring for the rising star. Bailey also stars in Netflix's Bridgerton as the series' namesake, Lord Anthony Bridgerton.

It is said that this new installment within Jurassic World will be a fresh take from Jurassic Park writer David Koepp and Gareth Edwards, who comes in to direct after helming 2023's The Creator. Edwards is also no stranger to directing franchise fare having directed 2014's Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story previously.
