Chris Rock to return to Directing with 'Another Round' Remake
by Darian Scalamoni
Chris Rock is returning to directing and his next project might surprise people. Deadline reports that Rock will direct the U.S. remake of the Oscar-winning international feature film, Another Round.
The Thomas Vinterberg original movie was released in 2020 and recognized by many across the film space as one of the best movies of that particular year. Back in 2021, Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way production company came aboard to adapt the film for American audiences, originally conceptualizing it with DiCaprio in mind for the lead role. However, it appears DiCaprio will now just appear on the project as a Producer.
Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang and Lars Ranthe led the original movie from Denmark, that followed four high school teachers that drink alcohol on a daily basis to see how it effects their personal and professional lives. Stuart Bloomberg (The Kids Are All Right) was the original writer on the project, but now, it appears a new writer will come aboard to help shape the vision of what Rock wants to tell on screen.
Rock is best known for his comedic work on screen, however, has an aim recently in more dramatic work on-screen and behind the camera. Rock recently had roles in Rustin, Amsterdam and even starred in Season 4 of FX series, Fargo. He has directed three films previously, with his last directing job coming in 2014 for Top Five in which he co-starred opposite Rosario Dawson. Deadline also reports that Rock is expected to direct a Martin Luther King Jr. biopic based on Jonathan Eig's book, King: A Life in the near future as well.
