It seems that every year, there is another Natalie Portman performance that would be considered for awards season. While many thought that Alex Garland’s female-led, follow-up to Ex Machina titled Annihilation would be the film this year, it seems that Brady Corbet’s Vox Lux might be the one that could get her a nomination this year.

In the final trailer for the film, we get to see and hear how Portman sounds in the musical drama. Out of all the previews for Vox Lux thus far, this is by far my favorite. It dives into the story, gives us our best look yet at what to expect and has me wanting to see this as soon as possible.

The movie follows two sisters, Celeste and Eleanor who survive a violent tragedy. They then compose and perform a song about their experience turning something catastrophic into something beautiful. Eighteen years later, Celeste is now a pop superstar, a mother to a daughter of her own and is trying to live her life the best she can until another act of terrifying violence grabs her attention.

Check out the final trailer for Vox Lux below! The film stars Portman, Raffey Cassidy, Jude Law, Stacey Martin and Jennifer Ehle. Vox Lux hits theaters on December 7th.
