THE DCU FINDS ITS WRITER FOR 'SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW' IN SCRIBE ANA NOGUEIRA

The pieces are starting to form for the newly christened DCU. With news coming pretty much daily now for James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, Warner Bros. is looking to get their talent in order for other future projects across the board for other theatrical releases and streaming series moving forward that adapt DC comic book properties.

The latest news comes from The Hollywood Reporter confirming that Ana Nogueira will write the screenplay for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Nogueira is the first one attached to the film in any way, shape or form as no decision on who will play the titular hero or who will direct the film has been made as of now. Gunn and Peter Safran had recently met with the actress-turned-screenwriter to discuss her ideas for the movie, which will act essentially as a retread as Nogueira was originally attached to write a Supergirl movie back in 2022 that would focus on Sasha Calle's version of the character seen in The Flash, before new leadership took shape at DC. This version of the story will follow Kara Zor-El, and rumors have linked Riverdale star Lili Reinhart to potentially having an inside track on the role.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow would be one of the feature film projects to be a part of Gunn and Safran's vision for the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters section of their new cinematic universe that hopes to gain success starting with Gunn's animated series Creature Commandos expected to hit Max in 2024. The story that Nogueira will adapt and take inspiration from is the Tom King run in the comics from 2021 and 2022 that matches the title of the movie.

In Co-CEO Gunn's video preview of the slate on Twitter back in January, he described the character of Supergirl as one who "watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she's a much more jaded character." He compared her to Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, meanwhile, in this particular story of Woman of Tomorrow, she is raised on a chunk of Krypton. It's said that Gunn and Safran really enjoyed Nogueira's work on the previous draft and not only brought her into the fold for Supergirl but also, signed her to an overall deal to DC Studios.
