Kingsley Ben-Adir Portrays Reggae Icon and Cultural Peacekeeper Bob Marley in First Trailer for Biopic 'Bob Marley: One Love'

by Darian Scalamoni
It's always been surprising to me that an artist as recognizable that can define a genre of music had not been given the biopic treatment by Hollywood. The artist I'm referring to is Bob Marley, and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Secret Invasion, One Night in Miami) is stepping into the shoes of this Reggae legend in the first trailer for Bob Marley: One Love.

The film showcases the career and impact that Marley had not only in his homeland of Jamaica but also, throughout the world. Bob Marley: One Love comes to theaters over 40 years since his death in 1981 from a rare form of cancer. It will explore the singer-songwriter's booming success with his group, The Wailers and also touches on his 1976 assassination attempt, which many believe was politically motivated. The subtitle of "One Love" that the movie features is due to his song of the same name, but also, the peace concert Marley put on in Jamaica's capital of Kingston, which was aptly titled "One Love."

Check out the first trailer for Bob Marley: One Love below! The film stars Ben-Adir, Lashana Lynch, James Norton, Michael Gandolfini, Anthony Welsh and Tosin Cole. Additionally, the film is written by Zach Baylin, Terence Winter, Reinaldo Marcus Green and Frank E. Flowers, while Green (King Richard, We Own This City) also directs. Bob Marley: One Love releases everywhere in theaters on January 12.
