Anthony Carrigan to Join 'Superman: Legacy' as DC Hero Metamorpho

With the SAG-AFTRA strike in the heat of the moment of Hollywood, there's not a ton of news coming down the pipeline. However, one piece of news broke through hours before the strike began and we're finally confirming it. According to THR, Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham) will join the newly christened DCU as Metamorpho. He'll make his debut to the universe in the highly anticipated Superman: Legacy.

Carrigan is best known for his terrific supporting turn in the HBO comedy series Barry where he played NoHo Hank. He's received three Emmy nominations for the role of the Chechen mafia leader in the series and looks to capitalize by getting more showy parts in motion pictures following the conclusion of the award-winning series. In winning the role of Metamorpho aka Rex Mason, Carrigan will embody an archaeologist who turns into a hero, with the ability to mold and change his body into many different elements and utilize that as powers. The look for his character is very unique (see above in our image) but it seems to be the sort of hero that writer-director James Gunn will love including within his vision for the DCU.

Carrigan suffers from alopecia and talked about taking on the role further with The Hollywood Reporter and why it's important for his community: "This character from what I've learned of the source material, he didn't like the way he looked, and I can really relate to that. You know, when he got his powers, he thought it was a curse. That's something that I really felt as well. In my case, I turned it around and saw it as a blessing. So, I'm excited to bring that to the table with this character."

Superman: Legacy flies into theaters on July 11, 2025, despite potential delays due to the strikes, Gunn aims to begin filming early next year. David Corenswet dons the red cape as Superman with Rachel Brosnahan stepping into the role of Lois Lane. Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced and Edi Gathegi are also cast as various DC heroes within the DCU.
