Darren Aronofsky to Direct Elon Musk Biopic, A24 to Produce

by Darian Scalamoni
One of the most controversial figures in the public eye is getting the scripted drama treatment with an accomplished director at the helm to navigate his interesting career. A report comes from Variety, that Darren Aronofsky will direct the currently untitled biopic covering the tech genius, Elon Musk. A24 is set to produce it after winning the rights in a bidding war. The news was first reported through Puck.

Walter Isaacson wrote the biography on Musk's life that will be adapted by Aronofsky for the feature as the role of Musk becomes one of the most attractive jobs in Hollywood post-SAG strike. Isaacson also wrote the book Steve Jobs, that was eventually adapted for the screen by Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle back in 2015 with Michael Fassbender playing the co-founder of Apple. One would think that this film could be the next version of The Social Network, as that film skyrocketed to awards fare with the aforementioned Sorkin winning for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards and garnered other wins and nominations, including Jesse Eisenberg being nominated for his role as Mark Zuckerberg.

Aronofsky is coming off his most high-profile directing gig in recent memory having directed The Whale, a film which won his lead actor Brendan Fraser his first Academy Award. That film was his first collaboration with A24 and it seems that successful relationship will continue for this gig centering around Musk. Aronofsky has also directed such films as Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler over the years, even having received a Best Director nomination for his work on Black Swan, which also netted Natalie Portman an Oscar. He seems to be an inspired choice to handle a figure as controversial and important as Elon Musk.

Musk first became known for developing the company SpaceX, a spacecraft manufacturing company in the early 2000s before becoming Chairman for Tesla. Eventually, he made the controversial decision to buy Twitter for $44 billion and rebranding it to X. Forbes estimates Musk to currently be the wealthiest man in the world with a net worth of more than $200 billion.
