Mad Max: Fury Road took the world by surprise when it released in 2015 earning six Academy Awards with ten total nominations and being admired by many (including myself) as one of the greatest films released in the new millennium. It was announced shortly after that a prequel film revolving around Charlize Theron's character Furiosa, would be getting a starring role with Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie) attached to play the ferocious Imperator for Immortan Joe.

The image comes from Collider's Steve Weintraub, who attended Brazil's CCXP, with Warner Bros. booth featuring a first look concept art at Joy's portrayal of the titular character. Additionally, the film stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke, who replaced Yahya Abdul Mateen II for one of the lead roles. Film Updates on Twitter actually posted a behind-the-scenes look at Hemsworth's villainous character, Warlord Dementus back in July 2022 sporting a magnificent beard and giving a glimpse at what to expect from George Miller's Mad Max follow-up.

Furiosa will act as an origin story for the iconic character that Theron portrayed in Fury Road, while she was terrific in the role, casting Anya Taylor-Joy, who is one of the best working young actresses today was a great coup for Miller and co. over at Warner Bros. At CCXP, there were other first-look images as well, including a look at some of the vehicles that will be featured in the movie.

World of Reel is reporting that the first trailer for the film is actually due to release this week. Jordan Ruimy also writes that Furiosa is expected to get a world premiere at Cannes in May 2024. The wide release date for Furiosa is currently set for May 24, 2024.
