John Boyega joins 'Pacific Rim 2'

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was a global phenomenon that not only payed tribute to one of the greatest franchises in movie history but also introduced the world to new stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. Yesterday, Variety reported that John Boyega will join another franchise as Idris Elba’s character’s son for Pacific Rim 2.

            Pacific Rim was a film that features giant robots battling monsters starring Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba but the movie did not do as well as people would’ve imagined, especially because it came from the mind of Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy). Yet, the film did great numbers internationally leading to a sequel. Though the sequel won’t be directed by del Toro, he’s still on board to produce the film. Pacific Rim 2 will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight who was a producer on TV hits like Daredevil and Spartacus.

            Boyega has a fairly busy schedule as of late, he has The Circle coming out later this year also starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Of course, he also has been filming Star Wars: Episode VIII which is to be released on December 15^th, 2017.
