Michael
Showalter is probably best known by many as the creator, writer and star of Wet Hot American Summer and both
companion TV series, First Day of Camp
and Ten Years Later. He’s been
blossoming as a director though in recent years with indie hits, Hello, My Name is Doris and The Big Sick. Now, he’s being approached
by studios to direct as The
Tracking Board reports that Showalter is attached to direct The Last Ride of Cowboy Bob for Fox
Searchlight.
This
dramedy follows Peggy Jo Tallas, a Texas bank robber in the 90’s who uses
disguises to rob banks. The film is to be adapted from the 2005 Texas Montly
article Cowboy Bob written by Skip
Hollandsworth. Even better news, the movie will be produced by Jake Gyllenhaal
and Riva Marker through their production banner, Nine Stories.
It
seems like a unique film for Showalter to undertake but also, reminds me a bit
of Fun with Dick and Jane. He did
great directorial work this year though with The Big Sick, so much so, that the movie is being buzzed about for
potential Oscar nominations. No news yet on cast but we’ll be sure to update
you with that news as soon as it becomes available.
