It’s
a bit surprising that following her Oscar win for her leading role in Room, Brie Larson has stayed out of the
spotlight despite some bigger roles in 2017. She starred in the blockbuster, Kong: Skull Island as well as having a
prestige role in The Glass Castle yet
she hasn’t been in anything this year. That’s probably because of her new
marvelous role in the MCU as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Now that she’s completed filming her solo movie and
her role in Avengers 4; Larson is
signing up for more projects.
According
to Deadline, Larson is set to star in
Charlie Kaufman’s next film, I’m Thinking
of Ending Things for Netflix. The movie, based on the 2016 novel of the
same name written by Iain Reid, follows Jake, whose going on a road trip with
his girlfriend to introduce her to his parents in their home, a secluded farm. Playing
into the title, Jake is suicidal and thinks about ending his life before leaving
his significant other stranded leading to a mix of tension and psychological
terror.
This
sounds like a different kind of venture for Larson, but I sure am excited to
see her team with Kaufman for this. Kaufman, previously wrote Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind and Adaptation
before penning and directing Synecdoche,
New York and Anomalisa. His films
are very off-beat in the best ways and him pairing with someone like Larson is refreshing.
In
addition to Larson’s first foray in the superhero genre, she’ll also appear in Just Mercy, a drama in which she’ll star
opposite Michael B. Jordan. Just Mercy also is directed by Destin Daniel
Cretton, who directed Larson in both Short
Term 12 and The Glass Castle.
