While
many had thought that it was only a matter of time that Iron Fist would be canceled from Netflix, and even Luke Cage to a certain extent. However,
the next Marvel Netflix series that just received cancelation, Daredevil, was the first Marvel series
for the streaming service and by far, the most beloved and unfortunately, the
character will end his journey after three seasons.
The
exclusive from Deadline does report
however that Daredevil is likely to
have life elsewhere, most are pointing to the upcoming Disney+ streaming service
debuting in 2019. Netflix provided a statement to Deadline saying, “Marvel’s
Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are
tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s
painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re
thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers,
stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself,
and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years.”
Netflix also added that
the series could live on another network, stating: “While the series on Netflix
has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to
come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future
projects for Marvel.”
I
haven’t had a chance yet to watch the third season of the comic book drama, but
as a huge fan of the first two seasons, it’s a disappointing announcement to
say the least. Daredevil was such a
beautifully crafted program that introduced fans to the devil of Hell’s Kitchen
as well as his comic book cohorts that include Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica
Jones. The latter has yet to have her series canceled but these announcements
are not a sign of encouragement while the status of The Punisher is also up in the air.
As a
fan of the character, I sure hope Disney decides to bring the show back but
unfortunately, I believe they’ll probably decide to reboot the character as
their own new entity. Disney+ already has a Loki
series upcoming as well as the Vision
and Scarlet Witch series.
How
do you guys feel about the announcement of the cancelation of Daredevil on Netflix? Do you hope the
character continues on another network? Do you hope Charlie Cox and others will
return to their roles? Comment below and let us know!
