There
have been tons of rumors based around the upcoming film from American arthouse
filmmaker, Wes Anderson to follow-up this year’s stop-motion flick, Isle of Dogs. Now, per Indiewire, we have new details about the
movie which is now officially titled, The
French Dispatch.
The French Dispatch was originally
rumored to have been a musical set in France and while the film is set in France,
it is not actually a musical. The film will actually be a love letter to
journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in 20th
century Paris which centers on three storylines. It sure sounds like your
typical zany, interesting Wes Anderson story.
We
can also confirm that some of the casting rumors have come to fruition while
others have yet to be announced. Bill Murray, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton,
who are usual suspects within Anderson’s films will appear in The French Dispatch while Timothee
Chalamet, Jeffrey Wright and Benicio del Toro will work with the director for the first time.
Three actors who have been attached to the project are Brad Pitt, Natalie
Portman and Lea Seydoux, however, these names have not been confirmed yet.
As a
huge fan of Wes Anderson’s projects, this one intrigues me very much. His last
live-action film, The Grand Budapest Hotel
is regarded by many as one of his greatest achievements while also being his
most profitable, making $174.8 million at the box-office. The film also won
four Academy Awards and with additions like Chalamet, Wright and del Toro working with
Anderson for the first time, this has catapulted to one of my most-anticipated
of next year.
