Some
movie ideas just make the most sense in the world. When Paul King was selected
to direct the live-action version of Pinocchio,
it was a terrific choice since his feel-good efforts of the Paddington franchise but the first potential
addition to the cast will have people’s excitement through the roof. According
to Collider, Tom Hanks is being eyed
to play Geppetto in Disney’s Pinocchio.
Pinocchio, which has gone through
countless drafts in terms of script with Chris Weitz, Jack Thorne and recently,
Simon Farnaby having put their own stamp on the property is expected to start
shooting next Summer. Hanks, a two-time Oscar winner would play the master
toy maker and widower who creates a wooden puppet that he wishes to become his
son. The original film from 1940 was a hit and showcased the story of
Pinocchio, the wooden puppet, proving himself to be worthy of being a real boy.
Hanks
is beloved by all of Hollywood and most audience members, so this is an
inspired choice for sure. He’ll be heard next on screen reprising his role as
Woody in Toy Story 4, while also set
to play Mister Rogers in the currently-untitled narrative feature based on the
beloved children’s TV show host. Hanks is the perfect A-list actor to take on
this role and I’m excited to hear more about this project. Now, to cast the
voice of Jiminy Cricket!
