Idris Elba has become one of the hottest actors on the planet today. While he has a busy schedule ahead with plenty of projects to be excited about, none might be more exciting than the upcoming movie adaptation of The Dark Tower. Today, it has been revealed though that the film will not be a complete faithful re-telling on screen. The new movie will “remix the novels much the way superhero movies often draw from decades of comic mythology to create a new cinematic origin story. Not only that, but Entertainment Weekly has provided us with a first look at Elba's character in the movie.

Elba’s role in the film as Roland Deschain is that he’s angry and driven by rage even though deep down he is a protector, he just needs a refresher. The refresher comes in the form of Walter, or “The Man in Black” who will played by Academy Award winner, Matthew McConaughey. He is a powerful warlock who’s looking to bring down the film’s setting, Mid-World and tracking down a young psychic boy. The movie is based on the original book series created by Stephen King, whose other works such as Carrie, The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining and Stand By Me have also been adapted into ultra-successful films.

The Dark Tower opens in theaters on February 17th, 2017. Check out the first image of Idris Elba as Roland Deschain below!
