Jonathan Groff (Frozen, Hamilton) has joined the cast of the upcoming season of Doctor Who in what is a "mysterious" guest role. Filming for the upcoming season which will be available to stream on Disney+ is currently happening in Wales.

While the BBC, which houses the program didn't offer many details on the news of Groff's addition to the production, they did say that he would "jump aboard the TARDIS," leading to speculation that his character could become an ally to the new Doctor. The new Doctor will be played by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, stepping into the massive shoes of playing the new famous Time Lord previously portrayed by Matt Smith, David Tennant, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker and many others. The first episode for Season 14 is expected to premiere close to Christmas.

In addition to Gatwa and Groff, the new season will also feature Millie Gibson as the Doctor's closest friend, while Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney will play Rose. RuPaul's Drag Race's Jinkx Monsoon will also have a major role in the upcoming installment of the sci-fi drama anthology.

Groff recently starred in the M. Night Shyamalan film, Knock at the Cabin alongside Dave Bautista and Ben Aldridge. He's also signed on to star in the musical, Molly and the Moon with Kristen Bell, as well as return to voice Kristoff in Disney's Frozen III.
