It was the year 2020 right before the pandemic in which Bong Joon-Ho's South Korean dark comedy thriller Parasite won Best Picture solidifying it in the pantheon of film royalty and film Twitter. The beloved film that won four Academy Awards is in the history books as one of only a select few that has garnered the honor of Best Picture at the Oscars and now, after years of anticipation, the director has released a teaser for his much-awaited follow-up in Mickey 17.

The short teaser confirms the reports that Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Tenet) will star in the film that is based on the Edward Ashton novel, Mickey7. Pattinson will play Mickey who is known as "an Expendable," a humanoid who is able to be cloned after his death. Though many of the details regarding the story are still under wraps, we can confirm that the quick teaser trailer reveals a March 29, 2024 release date for the sci-fi drama. Additionally, Pattinson will be joined by Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja), Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I Wanna Dance with Somebody), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Hereditary) and Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight, The Avengers) within the cast.

This also marks a return to the sci-fi genre for Bong Joon-Ho who has dabbled within that realm previously in 2017's Okja, 2013's Snowpiercer and 2006's The Host. Hopefully, we get another full-length trailer soon but given the fact that Mickey 17 is currently filming, I bet we're still a ways away.

Mickey 17 will be released exclusively in theaters on March 29, 2024. Are you guys excited to see Pattinson as the lead in the film? Do you think this could garner more awards and attention for Bong-Joon Ho following Parasite? Check out the first teaser for the film below.
