Amazon Reveals March Release Date and First-Look for Long-Awaited Series, 'Daisy Jones and the Six'

by Darian Scalamoni
Amidst the crazy content volume within television, it's interesting to see there hasn't been many series based around the music industry. As of late, this may be changing with Showtime's latest, George & Tammy but many other music-centric projects have pivoted to film. Whether that be Elvis, Bohemian Rhapsody or the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, the theater is seemingly the place where Hollywood wants these projects. Amazon Prime Video is trying to change the narrative with the arrival of Daisy Jones & the Six on their streaming service which will debut in March.

Daisy Jones & the Six went into development over three years ago in November 2019 so it's great to finally see that the series is coming to our television screens soon. The series, which is based on the beloved novel written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, follows a fictional rock band that is akin to Fleetwood Mac navigating two different sections of time, the 1970s and then 20 years later as the band chronicles their rise to fame in fake documentary style. Vanity Fair revealed details about the series and a ton of first look images that we can look at to introduce us to some of the characters and moments within the series.

First off is the titular Daisy Jones, who is played by Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road, American Honey) a solo artist who joins forces with the aforementioned "The Six" a rock band in need of a female voice within the Laurel Canyon music scene. The series has attracted a ton of talent not just in front of the camera but behind the camera as well. The producing all-star team that features famous actors such as Reese Witherspoon, accomplished directors like Niki Caro (Mulan, Whale Rider) and James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The Circle) was brought on first by executive producers, Scott Neustadter (The Disaster Artist, 500 Days of Summer) and Lauren Levy Neustadter (Where the Crawdads Sing, Big Little Lies). The husband-and-wife producing duo were massive fans of the bestselling novel and have aimed to make the series an experience as similar as they could to make the audience view it similarly to how they read it.

While the titular Daisy Jones was a character that had to be casted perfectly, so was Billy Dunne, the male lead within the story. The series landed on Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Me Before You) as the rock star who has troubling navigating life on the road and his passion for his music as well as family life as a father and husband to wife, Camila, played by Camila Morrone (Death Wish). The reason for the series' development being stopped was due to the COVID-19 pandemic as Amazon was gearing up the start of production just weeks after the world shut down. Now, as you can see below, within the first teaser, Amazon will set the release of Daisy Jones & the Six on March 3, 2023. The series stars Keough, Claflin, Morrone, Suki Waterhouse, Sebastian Chacon and Josh Whitehouse. Check out more of the first-look photos via Vanity Fair below as well as the short tease released by Amazon.
