Taylor Sheridan Adds to an Already Stacked Cast as Morgan Freeman Joins 'Lioness' at Paramount+

Taylor Sheridan talked in an interview with Deadline back in December about how his upcoming series, Lioness, would feature one of his biggest casts ever. Earlier this month, we reported that Nicole Kidman had joined Zoe Saldana in the series and now, we have an even bigger casting addition. According to an exclusive from Deadline, Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman (Invictus, Se7en) will also star in the show as Edwin Mullins, the U.S. Secretary of State.

Lioness is based on the real-life CIA program and follows a young female marine named Cruz Manuelos who is recruited to join the prestigious program to take down a terrorist organization from within. Freeman again joins Saldana, Kidman and lead actress, Laysla De Oliveira in the series who plays Manuelos. Other frequent Sheridan collaborators such as LaMonica Garrett, Dave Annable and James Jordan round out the cast as of now for the Paramount+ drama.

Freeman is coming off an Emmy-nominated guest appearance for Netflix's The Kominsky Method. He also appeared in the Amazon anthology series, Solos and The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard in 2021. Though the past year has been relatively quiet for the legendary actor, he'll next appear in Zach Braff's film, A Good Person alongside Florence Pugh and is in production on Taylor Hackford's Sniff where he'll co-star with other notable acting talents such as Helen Mirren, Al Pacino and Danny DeVito. Freeman has been nominated for 5 Academy Awards and won the Best Supporting Actor trophy back in 2005 for his role in Million Dollar Baby.
