New Trailer for 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods' Scales Up the Threat for the Boy Turned Superhero
by Darian Scalamoni
Shazam! was a pleasant surprise to me when it was released back in 2019. Zachary Levi solidified himself in my eyes as a terrific Billy Batson and thus as we await the news of what James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU will look like, we have a second trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The first film saw Billy get his powers, learn how to deal with being a hero and then ended with his foster siblings also getting powers. Now, the sequel deals with the group facing a bigger threat in Goddesses played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler. The trio of actresses will play the Daughters of Atlas who are in possession of a weapon that can destroy the world unless Batson and his siblings could stop the forces with help from Shazam, the last living member of the Council of Wizards who awarded Billy his powers in the first movie.
The titular superhero is played by both Levi and Asher Angel in their adult and teenage forms (despite Angel now being 20 years old). Fury of the Gods takes place a few years after the events of the first movie where his superhero duties have heightened along with his responsibility of looking after his family. The conflict takes place due to the trio of goddesses being frustrated with the way that Billy's family are utilizing the powers brought forth originally by their father, Atlas, which sets the battle in motion.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods looks to be a war between families which doubles the stakes set from the first film. Though I personally liked the first trailer more, I am still excited to see Shazam! Fury of the Gods and think that the visuals are a major step up from Shazam! Check out the new trailer below for Shazam! Fury of the Gods which releases in theaters on March 17.
