by Darian Scalamoni
The headline is correct, Sony has done the ultimate by putting two of the most attractive, young sought after names in Hollywood together for a romantic comedy. According to Deadline, Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, Euphoria) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Hidden Figures) will team up for a romcom set to be directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits).

The currently untitled film will be R-rated and though details are under wraps, it's clear that Sony sought these two hot names in the industry to come into business with. Sweeney's stock has risen tremendously from her TV roles in Euphoria as Cassie Howard as well as the first season of The White Lotus where she plays Olivia, daughter to Steve Zahn and Connie Nielson's characters. The actress has also appeared in other television series, The Handmaid's Tale and Sharp Objects in addition to working with Quentin Tarantino for a small role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Sweeney will next star in another Sony film, Madame Web, which is set in their universe of Spider-Man characters. She'll star alongside Dakota Johnson, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced and Adam Scott for the comic book feature.

Powell starred in one of the most successful and well-received romantic comedies of the last 10 years with Netflix's Set It Up opposite Zoey Deutch. Since then, his star just keeps rising. Powell had a major role in Top Gun: Maverick as Hangman, re-teamed with Richard Linklater for his Netflix rotoscope film, Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood and then finished his year with a leading role in Devotion alongside Jonathan Majors. He's currently in production on yet another Linklater film, Hitman, an action flick where Powell will take center stage joined by Andor's Adria Arjona. He has also signed on for his first major television role in the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid streaming remake for Amazon with Rege-Jean Page.

Despite both actors' busy schedules, the romantic comedy is set to begin filming at the end of February right before Sweeney films the third season of Euphoria. While Powell will film the Sony pic right before he stars in the sci-fi actioner Deputy X for Universal.
