Glen Powell to Star in 'Huntington,' a new A24 Film from Director of 'Emily the Criminal'

It appears that Glen Powell has the makings of the new breakout star of Hollywood. With a recent stretch of projects occupying every corner of the filmmaking medium, Powell is next set to lead an A24 feature.

Deadline reports that Powell (Anyone but You) will lead Huntington, a film set to be written and directed by John Patton Ford (Emily the Criminal), that is described as a "raucous revenge thriller." Powell plays Becket Redfellow, the heir to a billion-dollar fortune who refuses to get out of his cocky ways until he gets exactly what he believes he deserves. Powell has a knack for playing roles in which he is full of himself, so it seems the role of Redfellow should fit his acting abilities nicely.

The report details that Patton Ford's script takes inspiration from the 1949 film, Kind Hearts and Coronets, which starred Alec Guinness, however, it skews a bit darker than that film with some witty dialogue added within to cater to Powell's role. Patton Ford took the indie world by storm with his 2022 debut, Emily the Criminal starring Aubrey Plaza. The film debuted at Sundance that year and helped catapult Patton Ford towards his next project, which is in the works at A24. Emily the Criminal was picked up by Netflix after its debut.

Powell has been acting for years but really hit his stride after his appearance in Top Gun: Maverick as Jake 'Hangman' Seresin. He instantly became a franchise stalwart and is due to return for Top Gun 3, which is in development at Paramount. Since then, he's also led a romantic comedy for theaters that has grossed $100 million at the box-office with Anyone but You opposite Sydney Sweeney. It's obvious that he has the good looks and charm to have the makings of the next big star in Hollywood. I have loved him ever since his appearances in films such as Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!! and Netflix rom com Set It Up.

Powell will next star in Linklater's Hit Man for Netflix, which hits the streamer in June. Additionally, Powell will star in Twisters, the sequel to the 1996 disaster movie, where he's amongst an ensemble that includes Daisy Edgar-Jones, Katy O'Brien, Anthony Ramos and David Corenswet.
