First Trailer for Upcoming Apple Series 'Hijack' Previews a Tense Mid-Air Thriller Starring Idris Elba

by Darian Scalamoni
It was only a matter of time until Apple got into the Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Thor: Ragnarok) business, and can you blame them? Elba is one of the most rugged and polished actors today. Having been in many major franchises and being a long-time hopeful successor of James Bond, he's a natural to lead a thrilling series such as Hijack which just released its first trailer.

Hijack showcases Elba as a veteran negotiator, who mostly deals in business affairs, named Sam Nelson whose flight becomes hijacked as soon as the fasten seatbelt sign goes off. He's amidst a nearly 7-hour flight when this occurs and realizes that it's responsibility to himself and everyone else on board that they need to survive and get home to their families at the end of this crisis.

Though Elba is usually the one who is beating up the bad guys, Hijack takes a new approach, showcasing the actor's versatility as a more tender conversationalist who uses his wit rather than his fists to handle the negotiations with the hijackers. As always with series such as these, chaos comes into effect when the political background noise begins to crescendo during the mid-air seizure working through the demands of the attackers.

Hijack is due to premiere on June 28 and will stream seven one-hour episodes brought to AppleTV+ by Lupin creator George Kay and Jim Field Smith. Elba stars alongside Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Eve Myles, Neil Maskell, Jasper Britton, Harry Michell, Aimee Kelly, Mohamed Elsandel and Ben Miles.
