Spike Jonze To Direct Sci-Fi Limited Series for Netflix, Joaquin Phoenix in Talks to Star

by Darian Scalamoni
It's been 10 years since we've seen a project from the masterful filmmaker Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich), but now there is an update on what Jonze might have in store yet that will re-team him with one of the stars of his previous works.

World of Reel reports that Jonze is set to direct a limited series for Netflix that he's been in development on for years. The original report came from Matt Belloni of Puck. It's rumored to be a big budget, sci-fi story and it appears that Joaquin Phoenix (Joker, Beau is Afraid) is in talks to star. Phoenix starred in Jonze's 2013 film Her which was nominated for five Academy Awards and won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Jonze. There are also rumors of Jonze working on another project for Netflix, an animated series but we could not follow up on a secondary source for that.

Any news about Spike Jonze directing a film or series is an exciting prospect for sure, as it's practically a rarity. Jonze has only directed four feature films in his career: Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Where the Wild Things Are and Her. With the aforementioned film being my personal favorite, an opportunity to see Phoenix not only appear in a streaming series, but also reunite with Jonze is something that I would absolutely love to see.

What do you guys think? Are you excited to see Jonze head to streaming? Do you want to see him reunite with Joaquin Phoenix?
