We
reported months ago that Michelle Williams would star in Jonah Hill’s
directorial debut, Mid-90s but now,
we’re getting news that she’s dropped out of the project and Hill has cast the
replacement. According to The
Playlist, Katherine Waterston will replace Williams in the movie.
Waterston
will play the mother of the lead character, Stevie who navigates his way
through the Los Angeles skateboarding scene that also involves drugs, drinking
and sex amongst his coming of age. Stevie will be played by Sunny Suljic, who
is set to appear in Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming movie, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Lucas Hedges, the recent Oscar
nominee, will play Stevie’s older brother in the film as well. Waterston is
becoming a high-profile actress and though she doesn’t have the same name recognition
as Williams, I think she’ll work well with Hill and could be a good choice for
this role.
Waterston
was seen earlier this year starring in Alien:
Covenant and has multiple other movies set to be released this year. Those
other 2017 releases include, Steven Soderbergh’s, Logan Lucky and Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s, The Current War. She’s also signed on to return as Tina Goldstein
in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find
Them 2 which hits theaters on November 16th, 2018.
