Andrew Garfield is reuniting with his Under the Banner of Heaven co-star, Daisy Edgar-Jones for a new romance film. According to a report from Variety, Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) will play famed astronomer and author, Carl Sagan in Voyagers, to which Edgar-Jones (Normal People) will play his long-time wife, documentary producer and director, Ann Druyan.

Voyagers will tell the story of how the romantic relationship came to be with Sagan and Druyan, having seen Garfield and Edgar-Jones play husband and wife on the aforementioned FX series seemingly did enough to convince director, Sebastian Lelio (A Fantastic Woman, The Wonder) to cast them as the loving couple.

The film will be set in 1977 as NASA is preparing to launch one of humanity's first exploratory vessels into space. The team in place is led by Sagan, who looks to create a message to accompany them, known as the Golden Record, including music and images for possible aliens to discover upon their own environment. The movie, which starts as heart-pumping thriller, eventually blooms into a beautiful love story for Sagan and Druyan. Lelio co-wrote the script with Jessica Goldberg (The Path, Cherry) based on interviews with Druyan and many others that had worked on NASA's Golden Record project. Sagan also created the iconic docuseries, Cosmos with Druyan prior to his death in 1996, and also wrote the book, Contact, to which the 1997 film of the same name adapted.

Garfield is amongst one of the busiest actors currently working. He's currently filming We Live in Time, which was just picked up by producing powerhouse A24 and will co-star Florence Pugh. He's also attached to star in Guillermo del Toro's Netflix modern reimagining of Frankenstein. Garfield recently reprised his role as Spider-Man from a separate universe in the Marvel/Sony team-up, Spider-Man: No Way Home. He also recently earned his second Oscar nomination for his performance in tick, tick...BOOM!

Edgar-Jones became a breakout star with her Hulu series, Normal People, based on the Sally Rooney novel of the same name. She played lead character, Marianne and was nominated for a BAFTA award for her performance. She followed that up with another high-profile book adaptation with Where the Crawdads Sing and an indie thriller titled Fresh opposite Sebastian Stan. She's currently in production on the Carole King biopic, Beautiful where she'll play the singer-songwriter. She's also one of the lead characters in Twisters alongside Anthony Ramos and Glen Powell which is the sequel to the 1996 disaster film that starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt.
