First trailer for 'Sleepless' starring Jamie Foxx seems like a carbon copy of 'Taken'

It’s been quite a little while since we’ve seen Jamie Foxx on screen. He was last seen in the abysmal Annie remake and even before that, his last major blockbuster was The Amazing-Spider-Man 2 in which he played the villainous, Electro which again, wasn’t Foxx’s best. It seems that the Oscar-winning actor hasn’t been at his best since Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained which was released all the way back in 2012. Luckily, Foxx will return to the big screen in 2017 with a few movies, the first one being an action/thriller titled Sleepless in which the first trailer was released yesterday.

Sleepless is an American remake of the French action hit that was titled Sleepless Night. The movie follows Foxx, an undercover police officer as he attempts to hunt down the people who have kidnapped his son, following a botched robbery attempt. Yes, it sounds a hell of a lot like Taken and it sort of is. The film is directed by Baran bo Odar who is making his first American feature; he’s best known for his Swiss crime thriller, The Silence.

I think that this trailer reveals a very familiar action movie that doesn’t seem to outdo its competition. Though it is written by Andrea Berloff who co-wrote Straight Outta Compton, the movie seems unoriginal and doesn’t have enough to sell me on this first trailer.

Along with Foxx, Sleepless also stars Michelle Monaghan, Gabrielle Union, Scoot McNairy, Dermot Mulroney and T.I. The film will be released in theaters on February 24th, 2017. Check out the first trailer below.
