A film that clocked in at number 23 on my top 50 list of most-anticipated movies of 2017 is the latest from Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Dazed and Confused) titled Last Flag Flying. The movie, which is a quasi-sequel to the 1973 film, The Last Detail is set to open the New York Film Festival.

In addition to that, we now have a first-look image which could be seen under the headline and a synopsis for the film that reads: “Three aging Vietnam-era Navy vets—soft-spoken Doc (Steve Carell), unhinged and unfiltered Sal (Bryan Cranston), and quietly measured Mueller (Laurence Fishburne)—reunite to perform a sacred task: the proper burial of Doc’s only child, who has been killed in the early days of the Iraqi Invasion. As this trio of old friends makes its way up the Eastern seaboard, Linklater gives us a rich rendering of friendship, a grand mosaic of common life in the USA during the Bush era, and a striking meditation on the passage of time and the nature of truth.”

Now that we have even more info on the movie and a look at Carell, Cranston and Fishburne in the movie, I’m more excited than ever! Last Flag Flying will open the festival on September 28th and open in theaters everywhere on November 17th at a prestigious, awards likely date.
