After years of development and even a whole section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando being dedicated to the highest-grossing film of all-time, Avatar, there is some movement forward on the many sequels that director, James Cameron has been working on for years. Now, we have more casting news as The Tracking Board is reporting that Oona Chaplin is joining the cast of the Avatar sequels.

Chaplin will play Varang, a strong and lively central character who will appear in every sequel for the franchise going forward. Chaplin joins another newcomer to the world of Pandora, Cliff Curtis as well as Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver and Joel David Moore who appeared in the original 2009 movie. I’m a fan of Chaplin and she joins the wave of primary TV actors and actresses who are heading into the movie-verse. The bigger news with this is that the cast is coming together quickly which means that these movies will finally start shooting sooner rather than later.

Chaplin starred in Game of Thrones and also, Taboo earlier this year which aired on FX. She’s also appeared in feature films over the years such as The Longest Ride, Quantum of Solace and What If.

What are your thoughts on Chaplin on joining the Avatar franchise? Are you excited for the years ahead in this franchise? The four Avatar sequels will open wide on December 18th, 2020; December 17th, 2021; December 20th, 2024 and December 19th 2025 respectively.
