First Trailer for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Showcases an Emotional Journey for the Team and an Introduction to Adam Warlock

James Gunn shepherded the Guardians of the Galaxy being brought to the MCU when many speculated it could be the first failure for Marvel Studios. It turned out that these intergalactic misfits formed a very fun and different approach for the studio. With Gunn now set to take his talents formally over to DC, he has one last adventure planned with the original Guardians team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Yesterday, at CCXP in Brazil, Marvel released the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Within the trailer, we see Star-Lord leading Mantis, Nebula, Groot and Drax off a new ship in comic accurate costumes to a world loaded with animal people looking similar to that of Rocket. Also, within the preview for the film, we get glimpses of Gamora leading the Ravagers, first looks at The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) and Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and Rocket's pathway to taking vengeance on his creator.

Though the trailer surely has comedic beats, it looks to be a highly emotional conclusion for this version of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I'd speculate that only a few members of the team will still be together by the end of this movie with Warlock being the frontrunner to lead them. Chris Pratt has become such a big star that he is probably exiting the franchise while Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista have made it clear that this is the last film they're committed to. I'm very excited for this film though and think overall, it's a great tease for the final frontier with this band of outlaws.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases in theaters on May 5, 2023. The film is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Pratt, Bautista, Saldana, Iwuji, Poulter, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Maria Bakalova and Karen Gillan. Check out the first trailer below!
