Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie Pay Tribute to '2001: A Space Odyssey' with the First Teaser and Images for 'Barbie'

    One of the most anticipated films of 2023 is Barbie. Yes, you heard that right. Ever since the first-look images were released of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, the internet almost exploded. Now, we have a short teaser trailer and images for what is sure to be a unique telling of the story for the iconic plastic doll.

    Barbie stars Oscar-nominee Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad) as the titular character and fellow Oscar-nominee Gosling (La La Land, Blade Runner 2049) as her natural love interest, Ken. The two are amongst a remarkable cast that has been assembled by yet another Oscar-nominee in director, Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird). The movie is a marvel to look at just based on the short teaser and the first-look images reveal a film that looks to stand on its own flipping the narrative of what Barbie could actually entail. Gerwig has amassed a truly fantastic team for the film, co-writing with her husband Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), bringing in frequent Martin Scorsese cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto and featuring a score from Alexandre Desplat.

    Barbie's cast features the following talents: Robbie, Gosling, America Ferrara, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Emerald Fennell, Alexandra Shipp and Ncuti Gatwa. It's an all-star cast that features actors from all different circles and mediums from streaming series to film. The short teaser reveals an homage to the legendary film, 2001: A Space Odyssey which in and of itself is something you wouldn't expect from a movie revolving around the blonde pixie doll. The teaser showcases young girls playing with baby dolls until they have a realization that the best is standing large and in charge right in front of them as we see the reveal of Margot Robbie as Barbie. 

    The short teaser also reveals quick shots of multiple characters within the film, and we have some screen grabs to share as well. Barbie releases in theaters everywhere on July 21, 2023. Check out the first images and teaser trailer for Barbie below!
