Breakout Star of 'The Bear' Ayo Edebiri Cast in Marvel's 'Thunderbolts' Film

The Bear was one of the biggest TV shows of 2022 catching everyone by surprise. It had audiences yelling "Yes Chef!" to anyone and everyone plus it created opportunities for lesser-known talent to shine including Ayo Edebiri, who plays the character of Sydney in the show. Edibiri has been getting plenty of looks from many casting directors as of late and one studio that is bringing her into the fold is none other than Marvel.

According to an exclusive from reporter Justin Kroll over at Deadline, Edebiri has been cast in Marvel's Thunderbolts film which hits theaters in 2024. It's currently unknown who Edebiri will play in the superhero flick, however, we do know that the film will revolve around the antihero group known as the Thunderbolts named after the character Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the comics. The late actor William Hurt originally played Ross in the MCU up until his death in March 2022. He will be replaced moving forward by Harrison Ford.

This is a major role for Edebiri as its her first big studio role after starring in the FX dramedy series that takes place in a Chicago sandwich shop run by the brother of a renowned chef who has passed away. Edebiri is hired by the lead character Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto played by Jeremy Allen White. White recently won a Golden Globe for his role in The Bear. Edebiri was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for her part, and it's anticipated that she'll earn an Emmy nomination for the hit show as well. The Bear will return for a second season on FX and Hulu this upcoming Summer.

Edebiri just appeared in the recent Sundance comedy film, Theater Camp alongside Ben Platt and Molly Gordon. She's also set to star in Bottoms, a queer comedy with Rachel Sennott in 2023.

Not much is known of the plot of Thunderbolts but the cast of characters that will make up the comic book team was announced at last year's D23 event. Edebiri joins Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen and Olga Kurylenko in the film. Thunderbolts hits theaters on July 26, 2024, and is directed by Jake Schreier.
