Biopic Revolving Around Madonna Starring Julia Garner is Dead Amidst Madonna's Upcoming European Tour

After a grueling casting process to find the right actress to play the international pop star, it seems that development on the biographical film revolving around Madonna is seemingly dead. In an exclusive from Variety, they report that the biopic set to star 3-time Emmy winner Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna) won't be moving ahead at Universal.

It seems that the project seemed to fall apart following this past week's announcement that the 64-year-old multi-hyphenate would be embarking on a Worldwide tour selling out multiple cities in different countries. People close to Madonna have said that she intends to fully focus on getting herself ready for the tour but intends to make a movie about her life one day, just not anytime soon. Madonna had aimed to direct the biopic herself which would've been her third-directed feature film following 2008's Filth and Wisdom and 2011's W.E. which she also wrote the screenplay for.

Following her massive success in the 1980s for her musical talents, Madonna found herself starring in a number of films starting in the 1990s such as Dick Tracy, Shadows and Fog, A League of Their Own and even starring in Evita a musical revolving around the Argentinian actress who became the wife of then Argentinian president, Juan Domingo Peron. We at Cinema Wave first reported the news of Universal gaining the rights to the screenplay originally titled Blond Ambition for which Madonna was set to direct back in 2017

Garner was coveted for the role by the pop star when Madonna put her alongside other great young stars such as Florence Pugh, Bebe Rexha and Euphoria's Alexa Demie, however, Garner stood out in the singing and dancing boot camp they were put through to win the role. I think especially due to her clear acting abilities plus her signature platinum blonde curls, that Garner was a terrific choice to play Madonna, so I'm bummed we may never see her take. Garner will next be seen in the horror film Apartment 7A with Dianne Wiest and Jim Sturgess and The Royal Hotel with Jessica Henwick and Hugo Weaving.

What do you guys think of the news that the Madonna biopic is dead at Universal? Were you looking forward to seeing this film come to fruition? What about the choice of Julia Garner as the pop icon? Let us know in the comments!
