Nicole Kidman and Maya Erskine to Lead 'The Perfect Nanny' for HBO

HBO has a big year set for 2023 and is already off to a terrific start with the video game adaptation The Last of Us being renewed for a second season, Succession plotting a return in March and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson setting his second series on the premium network with The Idol. However, HBO always has a great slate of limited series as well and there's yet another on the horizon with a new creative writer.

According to Deadline, Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos, Moulin Rouge!) will star with Maya Erskine (PEN15, Obi-Wan Kenobi) in the miniseries The Perfect Nanny based on the novel of the same name from Leila Slimani. The Perfect Nanny is about a seemingly flawless nanny who goes to work for a couple with two young children, but we quickly learn that her helpful behavior turns into something much more ominous and troubling. The book is inspired by the gruesome murders of the Krim siblings in 2012 with the series being written by Erskine herself.

Kidman is one of the busiest actresses in all of Hollywood with a bevy of projects across film and television that she's currently working on. Next, the Oscar-winning Australian actress will appear in the Netflix romantic comedy A Family Affair with Zac Efron, Joey King and Kathy Bates. She will also reprise her role as Atlannta, Aquaman's mother in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this December. We reported that Kidman has been cast earlier this month in Taylor Sheridan's upcoming CIA-focused Paramount+ series Lioness which has amassed quite the cast. Kidman will co-star with Zoe Saldana, Morgan Freeman and Laysla de Oliveira for the streaming series. Kidman will also reunite with HBO for The Perfect Nanny after starring in both The Undoing and Big Little Lies previously.

Erskine is best known for co-starring and co-creating the popular Hulu comedy series PEN15 with Anna Konkle. Since the show ended in 2021, Erskine appeared in episodes of the Disney+ Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi and voiced Mercy Graves in DC League of Super-Pets. Erskine's next role however is the biggest she's attained thus far in the industry, acting as a co-lead in Amazon's Mr. and Mrs. Smith series with Donald Glover. Erskine will also have a voice role in Laika's Wildwood directed by Travis Knight.

What do you guys think about Erskine and Kidman acting in The Perfect Nanny? Have you read the novel? Do you think HBO is the right network to handle a story such as this? Let us know in the comments!
