One
of the most highly anticipated movies of the year is finally here! Captain America: Civil War is the sequel
to Captain America: The Winter Soldier,
and it focuses on a rival fight between Iron Man and Captain America. The
government decides to push for The Anti-Hero Registration Act, and this result
in a division for The Avengers. Iron Man and Captain America stand with their
different perspectives, and this escalates into a war between Team Iron Man and
Team Captain America. In the meantime, a new villain emerges and has his own
agenda.
There is no doubt that 2016 is the
year for superhero films. We already had Deadpool,
which was a brilliant superhero film, and we had Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was a massive
disappointment. Now, the Summer Movie Season is here, and it could not have
started any better. Captain America:
Civil War is the best comic book movie since The Dark Knight. It truly is the greatest Marvel film that we ever
had.
Captain
America: Civil War easily could have been a disaster. There is so much
going on in this movie, yet The Russo brothers managed to make every story arc
to not be convoluted. The movie is over two and a half hours long, and not once
did the film drag. The entire cast does an excellent job; Robert Downey Jr.
still proves once again why he was born to play Tony Stark/Iron Man. The
standouts however, are newcomers Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman. Tom Holland,
who played the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, absolutely nailed the role; he
is by far the great portrayal of Spider-Man that has ever been put on screen.
Chadwick Boseman, who plays Black Panther does a fantastic job. He truly was a
great character and I cannot wait to see his stand alone film, along with
Spider-Man’s.
The action in Captain America: Civil War is also some of the best action that has
been showcased in the MCU. One of the praiseworthy aspects of Captain America: The Winter Soldier was
that the Russo Brothers made the action scenes top notch, and somehow they
improved the action in Captain America:
Civil War. There is a scene at the airport within the third act, and it is
the best action scene I have seen in any superhero film. The stunt work is also
spectacular; not much CGI was used and the way the action scenes were filmed
should be recognized.
Zemo, who is the main villain of the
film that is played by Daniel Bruhl, also works as a great antagonist. Other
than Loki, Marvel has had a problem with creating a compelling villain in their
films. The reason why this is not the case with Zemo, is because the viewer is
able to understand his motivation. At its core, Captain America: Civil War is about friendship and vengeance. The
way the Russo Brothers and the actors are able to convey those themes are
fascinating. Captain America: Civil War
is everything a summer blockbuster should be.
Captain
America: Civil War is easily my favorite movie of the year so far. It has
honestly set the bar so high for the Summer Movie Season; I do not know if any
summer film can top it. It’s not just a great comic book movie, it’s a great
movie in general. I cannot wait to see it again, and I would highly recommend
everyone to see this movie. It truly is a wonderful film.
10/10
