There have been many times where biopics have been released closely together by different studios as they battle to see who has the better movie. Recent examples include Ashton Kutcher’s Jobs and Michael Fassbender’s Steve Jobs being released just two years apart. However, it’s rare to see two films of this nature being released in the SAME year but that’s what we have upcoming. Gary Oldman will play former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill in Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour but not before Brian Cox does so in the aptly-named Churchill that hits theaters on June 2nd.

The first trailer for Churchill can be seen below and stars Cox as Churchill in the days leading up to D-Day. I have to be honest though, I’m not excited for this movie one bit. Cox is the seventh actor to portray the legendary British leader doesn’t seem to have the same gravitas of any of them especially John Lithgow who recently won an Emmy for his portrayal in Netflix’s The Crown. The movie seems to be a little too conventional for my taste and I don’t believe it will garner the same praise as past performances or even Oldman’s upcoming turn as leader.

Check out the trailer for Churchill! The movie stars Cox, John Slattery, Miranda Richardson, Ella Purnell and James Purefoy. Churchill hits theaters on June 2nd.
