The Pixar franchise, Cars has been a rocky road since the first film was released in 2006. As a fan of the first movie, I’ve always tried to fight hard for it because compared to many other Pixar projects, it barely holds a comparison. Cars 2 is also by far the worst movie the studio has ever produced so the fact that they were making a third was shocking to say the least. Having said that, the marketing campaign and movie in general looks surprisingly different than the previous movies and Disney has released a full-length trailer for Cars 3 which we have for you below.

The upcoming sequel looks to follow Lightning McQueen as he nears retirement and looks to cement a legacy for his racing career. It’s a theme that is relevant in terms of many sports but racing isn’t one of them, having said that, the plot actually looks refreshing and I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ll be able to do with it. It doesn’t seem like the typical plot in which younger audiences would go to see, but Cars does manage to have some of the best numbers in terms of toys and products for Disney so we’ll have to wait and see.

Check out the trailer below for Cars 3! The movie stars Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Cristela Alonzo, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Paul Dooley, Cheech Marin, Katherine Helmond, Larry the Cable Guy, Angel Oquendo and Darrell Waltrip. Cars 3 opens in theaters everywhere on June 16th
