Colin Trevorrow was one of the first filmmakers outside of the Marvel formula to create a smaller, intimate indie film like Safety Not Guaranteed before writing and directing one of the highest grossing movies of all-time, Jurassic World. Though he won’t be helming the sequel, that will be done by JA Bayona, he has his hands full at the moment with another franchise you might’ve heard of, Star Wars. Trevorrow will direct Star Wars: Episode IX but before he does that, he had a bit of time to write and direct another smaller, character driven film titled The Book of Henry and we have the trailer for you right here.

The Book of Henry already looks like one of the most confusing films of the year based on the trailer that showcases Jaeden Lieberher (best known for his roles in St. Vincent and Midnight Special) as a boy genius who pretty much takes care of everything and anything for himself, his brother and his mom. Unfortunately, when discovering that the girl next door is being abused by her stepfather, he realizes something must be done. The trailer starts looking like a feel-good story about a family and their genius a la, the upcoming film Gifted, but then it turns into a crazy thriller that is backed by a change in music, Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris as the villainous stepfather and Naomi Watts assembling a sniper rifle. It’s truly a crazy premise and one that I don’t know if I can get behind because the tone just seems very off. Also, if you’re going to feature Jacob Tremblay in your movie, have him speak in the trailer!

Check out the trailer below for The Book of Henry! The movie stars Jaeden Lieberher, Naomi Watts, Jacob Tremblay, Dean Norris, Sarah Silverman and Maddie Ziegler. The Book of Henry opens in theaters on June 16th.
