The
Black List is a list of unproduced screenplays that industry officials rank in
order of preference and last year’s list was topped by a Madonna biopic titled Blond Ambition. Now, according to THR,
it seems that the movie is in fact getting made thanks to producers Michael De
Luca (The Social Network, Captain
Phillips), who is also attached to Michael Mann’s television series that we
just talked about yesterday, Hue 1968
but also Brett Ratner (The Revenant,
Horrible Bosses).
After
hearing of this news yesterday, Madonna reportedly shunned the film which is
unfortunate and could lead to a snag in getting the rights to her music. If
that were to happen, I would imagine the movie being shut down completely
because who does a Madonna biopic without the music? Anyway, the movie is set
in the early 80s and tracks the pop icon’s work on her first album and
struggling with the business, love and fame. The self-titled debut album of
Madonna featured hits like “Borderline”, “Holiday” and “Lucky Star” catapulted
her into superstardom for all-time.
The
biggest key now, other than getting Madonna to sign off on song rights would be
to find an actress to play the lead role. Many have already said that Margot
Robbie would be perfect and while I agree she’d be great, I’d be excited to see
someone else get a shot at the role. Lily Collins comes to mind as a casting
choice if I was choosing to pick an actress to play the music star. She has a
musical lineage (Phil Collins is her father), plus she has the acting chops to
pull it off and is young enough to play Madonna in the 80s when she was in her
20s.
What
do you guys think about the news of Blond
Ambition? Who would you want to see play Madonna in the flick? Sound off in
