It seems that Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Where the Crawdads Sing) is ready for the big-budget tentpole as she's officially signed on to lead Twisters from Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures per Deadline. The critically-acclaimed actress is the first to sign on to the film that serves as a follow-up to the 1996 blockbuster disaster film Twister

Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) is coming off directing a terrific episode of The Mandalorian this past week and had multiple offers on what to direct following his two Academy Award nominations for 2020's Minari. He decided on a new chapter of the natural disaster film that originally earned more than $490 million at the box-office due to his experiences growing up on a farm in rural Arkansas and having to deal with tornadoes as a youth. Twisters will be written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, The Midnight Sky) and is set for a July 19, 2024 release date. Steven Spielberg will return to produce as well.

Edgar-Jones first garnered acclaim for her role alongside Paul Mescal in Hulu's Normal People which earned her a BAFTA nomination. She followed that up by starring in Sony's adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing based on the bestselling novel. The movie was a massive success grossing $136 million worldwide and the actress has been very busy ever since. Last year, she co-starred with Sebastian Stan in Fresh and also earned a Golden Globe nomination for FX's Under the Banner of Heaven alongside Andrew Garfield. She's in talks to star as Carole King in Beautiful, the movie based on the stage play of the same name which chronicles the life of the singer-songwriter. She's also joined On Swift Horses with Will Poulter, Diego Calva and Jacob Elordi.
