'The Little Mermaid' Trailer Brings Us Under the Sea with First Looks at Ursula, King Triton, Sebastian and More!

Anticipation has been high for a fully-fledged reveal of what Disney has in store for its live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. The sneak peek was revealed back at D23 for what is commonly viewed as one of, if not, the greatest animated film in Disney's illustrious history, and last night at the Academy Awards, we got a full trailer reveal for the film.

The first trailer gives us a much better look at the main figures from the original story. If you've lived under a rock and been part of your own world for the last 30+ years, the film follows a mermaid named Ariel (Halle Bailey) who dreams of life beyond the sea and becoming a human. In her dare to dream this life into existence, Ariel makes a deal with an evil sea witch named Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), who she trades her beautiful singing voice with to get herself human legs. In doing so, Ariel wishes to make a life of her own away from her father King Triton (Javier Bardem) and impress a prince on the surface (Jonah Hauer-King).

It truly is a beautiful trailer and could make an impression as the best live-action Disney remake since The Jungle Book back in 2016. Throughout the coming attraction, we also get a view of Ariel's underwater kingdom, melodies from the iconic songs such as "Part of Your World" and "Under the Sea" and a look at Scuttle (voiced by Awkwafina), who has since been shifted into a diving bird rather than a seagull. We also get a quick glimpse as Sebastian the Crab (voiced by Daveed Diggs) and see the back of Ariel's best friend Flounder, a guppy fish (voiced by Jacob Tremblay).

Check out the first official trailer for The Little Mermaid below! The film stars all the above talents listed while being directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns, Chicago) from a script from David Magee and Jane Goldman. The legendary composer Alan Menken, who won an Oscar for "Under the Sea" will return to write new music for the live-action retelling alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Little Mermaid hits theaters everywhere on May 26.
