As I
talk about here on Cinema Wave all the time, we’re living in an era where
television rules and there is content coming at us from all angles. It’s surprising
though that many shows have been getting the ax from their networks but not as
surprising that streaming services and other networks have picked up these
series to air on their channels or subscription-based networks.
It
was just last week in which Fox cancelled The
Mick, Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn
Nine-Nine were cancelled by the network, but the latter was saved by NBC
for a Season 6. Now, two more series are being saved, this time by separate
streaming services. According to Deadline, The
Expanse, Syfy’s critically acclaimed show will get picked up by Amazon for
a Season 4. Also, UnReal, the
Lifetime drama that has earned awards for its star Constance Zimmer in the
past, will move to Hulu for its own fourth (and likely) final season.
The Expanse is written and co-created by
the Oscar-nominated screenwriting duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby who wrote
Alfonso Cuaron’s, Children of Men. The
show stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes
Chatham, Frankie Adams and Thomas Jane.
UnReal was created by Sarah Gertrude
Shapiro and Marti Noxon and is led by Shiri Appleby who plays Rachel Goldberg,
a young producer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with, and
among, the contestants of a dating show, in order to get the vital dramatic and
outrageous footage that the program’s dispassionate executive producer, Quinn
King, demands. Constance Zimmer also stars in the series as King.
