The
Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly but surely taking over our actual universe.
With two massive releases this year in “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity
War” that have both grossed over $1 billion, they have audiences all over and
many are wondering what will come following “Avengers 4.” Until then, we have
even more casting announcements for Phase 3 films.
According
to Variety, Annette Bening is joining the MCU in the upcoming, “Captain Marvel.”
There is no confirmation on who she is playing but speculation by multiple
outlets has her playing the titular superhero’s mother. She joins a cast that
also includes Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, with Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn and
Gemma Chan in supporting turns. Samuel L. Jackson will also reprise his role as
Nick Fury in the 90s set comic book movie.
Bening
has been one of my absolute favorite actresses for a long time but recently she’s
been on a roll. Her joining the MCU just adds to the unbelievable talent that
they have brought in for their movies in the past. She starred in “20th
Century Women” (my favorite film of 2016) and “Film Stars Don’t Die in
Liverpool” last year. She’s currently promoting “The Seagull” which is in
theaters today.
The
next blockbuster adventure from Marvel follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force
pilot whose DNA is fused with an alien during an accident. This leads to an
alteration to her which gives her the superpowers of strength, energy
projection and flight. “Captain Marvel” hits theaters on March 8th,
2019. The movie will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who previously
helmed “Mississippi Grind” and “It’s a Funny Story.”
How
do you guys feel about the casting of Annette Bening in “Captain Marvel?” Are
you excited about her joining the MCU?
