The
Western genre has been around for almost a century and it follows the most
formulaic format in terms of narrative, but a new Western has a different tone
thanks to the Zellner brothers. The new trailer for Damsel puts an uncommon
spin on the genre as Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson star as 18th
century lovers.
Pattinson’s
character, Samuel believes that Wasikowska’s Penelope has been kidnapped and that
he will save her leading to a romantic embrace however, Samuel was misled. The
mix on the traditional gender roles in the genre looks to be a fun and creative
tone for the film.
Pattinson continues to
build up tons of diverse roles post-Twilight.
Just recently, he’s starred as a photographer following around James Dean in Life, an adventurer in The Lost City of Z and a grimy bank robber
in Good Time; now he’s dipping his
toes into the Western waters and it looks like it could be successful.
Wasikowska
has been out of the spotlight for a little while now as her last big role was
reprising Alice in Disney’s, Alice
Through the Looking Glass. She also co-starred in the indie, Piercing
alongside Christopher Abbott earlier this year.
Check
out the trailer below for Damsel! It
hits theaters on June 22nd and stars Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska,
Robert Forster, David Zellner and Nathan Zellner.
