Cary Fukunaga is back on TV with the first trailer for TNT’s The Alienist. Though he only has a producer credit on the show, I can see his touch radiating off of the screen in the limited series adaptation of Caleb Carr’s book of the same name.

The Alienist is a crime drama that centers around Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, who works with mentally ill people and is brought in by the police to capture a serial killer of young male prostitutes. The crimes happen to be some of the most gruesome that anyone had seen to this point and Kreizler assembles a team to use psychology and forensic science to take down the killer. With this trailer, I think TNT firmly places themselves in the thick of being in that “peak TV” category. This looks like it could be one of my favorite shows this Fall and might give Daniel Bruhl the spotlight he deserves since Inglourious Basterds.

Check out the trailer below for The Alienist! The show stars Bruhl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning and Brian Geraghty. The series is expected to land on TNT later this year.
