The most epic of dream teams is coming together for a feature film. Three of arguably the most influential names in Hollywood’s recent memory will work together on a project based around the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in 1971. Deadline reports that the said film titled The Post, will be directed by Hollywood icon Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Schinder’s List) and star Oscar-winners Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

The Post will follow the duo of the Washington Post’s editor, Ben Bradlee and publisher, Kay Graham who challenged the federal government over their right to publish the information of the Pentagon Papers in the early 70s. Hanks and Streep will play Bradlee and Graham respectively in this incredibly timely drama in which many people in the press battle each and every day with President Donald Trump whether or not their news is credible enough to believe or if it is deemed “fake news”. The Pentagon Papers were defensive documents that were classified information from the United States political-military involvement within Vietnam from 1945-1967. They first came into the public’s eye after The New York Times released the documents to the public that revealed that the government lied to the public and Congress about aspects of the war. It’s a perfect film to bring together legendary talents that have a combined total 41 Oscar nominations and 8 wins for the trio of talents involved.

Streep was just nominated this year for her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins in the titular role. She’ll be seen next in Mary Poppins Returns in 2018 as well as the TV series from JJ Abrams titled, The Nix. Hanks garnered buzz for an Oscar nomination as well but didn’t receive it for his work as Chesley Sullenberger in Sully. He’ll appear next in James Ponsoldt’s The Circle alongside Emma Watson and the late, Bill Paxton. Spielberg is currently in post-production for Ready Player One based on the novel of the same name and is casting for The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara that will star Mark Rylance and Oscar Isaac. This film will have to fight in that crazy schedule of his but it should be worth it as its likely to garner even more accolades for everyone involved.
