New Trailer for 'True Detective: Night Country' Star Jodie Foster & Kali Reis as detectives in Alaska for HBO Series

It was back in 2014 when HBO released the limited series, True Detective that almost ten years later is still considered one of the greatest seasons of television of all-time. Featuring two remarkable performances from leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, HBO was primed to try and make the series into a multi-season franchise. Following a disappointing season 2, HBO took their time with a Mahershala Ali-led third installment and now, have finally reworked the series with a fourth season titled True Detective: Night Country.

At the recent unveiling of Max, the new streaming platform that brings together HBO Max and Discovery+ since the merger between Warner Bros. Discovery, a trailer was revealed that gives plot details and a look at the two leads of the series, Oscar-winner Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs, The Brave One) and Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One). True Detective: Night Country has the actresses take over the investigative roles in the anthology series, which new season takes place in Ennis, Alaska, following the story of eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station going missing without a trace. Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) have to face their own inner demons that they to dig into the dark truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

The trailer is filled with tension stacked against the frigid temperatures and darkness that sets the tone for what looks to be a fantastic limited series for HBO. There's clearly friction between the two leads which also fits the tone and identity of the True Detective seasons of the past. Foster and Reis lead a cast that also includes Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Christopher Eccleston and John Hawkes. Issa Lopez will write, direct, executive produce and act as showrunner for the whole season.

Check out the new trailer below for True Detective: Night Country. The series is produced by Barry Jenkins, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Cary Joji Fukunaga and series creator Nic Pizzolatto. True Detective: Night Country will release later this year.
